Democratic Party leaders oust Kurita as nominee

Tim Barnes won his challenge tonight to become the Democratic nominee for the Tennessee State Senate for District 22.

According to Kleinheider via the Nashville Post, the vote was 61 to 4. Barnes, who was present, seems to have won overwhelmingly. Kurita was apparently not present.

Democrats effectively ousted Kurita from the position, which she won by 19 votes in the August primary.

There is no Republican opposition, so Barnes faces no opposition. The Tennessean reported that Kurita does not plan to concede and will run as a write-in candidate in this November's election.

Obama wins the day...

...according to the Politico staff. This is the sixth day in a row he's 'won'.

It seems almost too obvious to say at this point, but Obama-Biden has seized on the events of the last few days with an intensity that would've been hard to imagine just a week ago. Both Democratic candidates kept pounding away at McCain today, with Biden, in Ohio, accusing the Republican of being AWOL on the economy, and Obama hammering on the charge that lobbyists are "running [McCain's] campaign" during a trip to Nevada. And to top it off, the day closed with a New York Times poll giving Obama a 5-point lead nationally.

McCain had a slightly better day today than on Monday or Tuesday. On a trip to Michigan, he sounded a stern note in response to the AIG bailout. And all early indications suggest Sarah Palin had a predictably smooth time in her interview with Sean Hannity.

Still, a spate of state-level polling shows Obama bouncing back in places like Ohio and Florida, where his numbers suffered last week. If this trend continues, McCain may head into the weekend deprived of his post-convention momentum.

Obama addresses nation on state of economy

The Obama Campaign has released a two-minute ad today where Obama speaks to Americans on his view of the state of the economy and what he'll do to fix it.

The ad is airing nationally, with heavy rotation in battleground states.

Carly Fiorina on McCain's economics

Carly Fiorina, the McCain Campaign's senior economic adviser, said today on KTRS radio in St. Louis that Sarah Palin does not have the experience to run a major company.

When the host asked, "Do you think she has the experience to run a major company like Hewlett Packard?," Fiorina replied, "No, I don't. But that's not what she's running for. Running a corporation is a different set of things."

How is it different, does she mean unlike mayors, governors and senators, corporate executives have 'actual responsibilities'?

Then just a little while ago on MSNBC, Fiorina said the same thing about John McCain.

Are both of these statements taken out of context? Yes. But these soundbites speak volumes about how the McCain Campaign is losing their footing on economic issues.

I haven't seen any ads yet using this footage (which there certainly will be), but here's a response from Obama spokesman Bill Burton:

"If John McCain's top economic adviser doesn't think he's qualified to run a company, how on Earth can he run the largest economy in the world in the midst of a financial crisis? Apparently even the people who run his campaign agree that the economy is an issue John McCain doesn't understand as well as he should."

Hitting McCain early this A.M.

During the RNC convention in St. Paul, MN and for the following week, the Obama Campaign let the discussion move from issues to culture. But since the campaign pledged early last week, they would be begin moving back to issues and would respond quickly and fiercely.

Both campaigns laid off one another for the most part last Thursday, September 11.

But starting early Friday morning, the Obama Campaign followed through with their promise and have dominated the discussion arguably every day. A string of biting campaign ads have been released daily, including on Saturday and Sunday.

This morning is no exception, the new ad highlights McCain repeating an older line of his that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."

Joe Biden responded yesterday while campaigning in Michigan saying that "I could walk from here to Lansing, and i wouldn't run into a single person who thought our economy was doing well, unless I ran into John McCain."

There's no mistaking that Obama and Biden refocused their economic message more successfully than McCain and Palin, who were slow to rebound from McCain's comments in Florida and being laced into by team Obama.

Here's the newest ad from the Obama Campaign...

New ad questions McCain's honor

The Obama Campaign today release a new ad titled "Honor." The ad follows a week of 'way harsh' media reports and editorials regarding the McCain Campaign's dishonesty.

This following Karl Rove's appearance yesterday on FOX, where he said McCain's ads have "gone one step too far in attributing to Obama things that are beyond the 100% truth test." Watch it here.
