Zach Wamp: Grammatically Challenged?

Some time ago I contacted my congressperson, Zach Wamp, to encourage him to support the Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA). I received the standard mail merge response [but kudos to him for sending me said reply via email instead of using snail mail]. I stumbled upon this email today while cleaning out my inbox and read over it again.

The letter starts out nice with Wamp saying, "No one should ever have to face discrimination for any reason." That statement almost makes you like the guy.

But then he goes on to say...

Unfortunately, passing more laws does not guarantee intolerance.

Am I wrong, or is that supposed to say tolerance?!

Is Zach Wamp [okay, okay... I know it was not he but his staff that wrote it] grammatically challenged? Or is that on purpose, the product of a wise-ass staffer who thought they were slipping something in?

Regardless of the reason for the error, why was it not caught? It's not just one constituent who received this, everyone who contacted his office for or against ENDA received it.

I'm truly perplexed by Wamp-speak.

Oh and then the letter goes on to say...

"The law and the constitution are already on your side."

Tell that to these guys or this (now)lady.

And of course he signed the thing with "warmest regards." Oh well.

I sure hope there aren't any grammatical problems in this post. But if there are, I preempt negative comments by saying this is a casual blog. And I'm not a congressman.

Is that a post title a rhetorical question? I hope so, because if you've ever heard Wamp speak, you wouldn't have to ask. Zach, who had to drop out of Carolina because of the legal problems he had stemming from his cocaine habit and check kiting games, is negligibly more literate than the mentally-challenged shrub who currently occupies the White House.
